Now that I actually have a blog, I have a place I can put these incentivizing social media writing badges NaNoWriMo sends out! Maybe not quite as incentivizing as the fact that I’ve told myself I can only have more candy corn if I crank out a 5,000 word day (no candy corn yet) and a piece of pumpkin pie every 2,000 words (the pumpkin pie is gone), but every little bit helps.
It’s amazing the things you’ll find to procrastinate with when trying to doing NaNo, even if you like it! There are forums on the site to share odd household chores etc that NaNo has inspired participants to do. Personally, yesterday I made liver pâté and cleaned the toilet.
Still the novel is coming along well enough, hit 13,000 words yesterday, and I’ve come up with the goal of a minimum of 2,000 words a day so I’ll have at minimum 60,000 to work with at the end of the month. Middle grade novels are usually between 50,000 and 75,000 words. Hopefully some solid 5,000+ days will add more fuel for the revision fire too. Oh and one more tool in the incentives box: now I’ve announced to the world my intention of 2,000 words a day to win NaNo I’ll definitely need to achieve that to win, not just hit 50,000 words. So even more incentive to put the offal aside and get my draft done!
